Scenic Industries Increases Production by 30% wit…
CHALLENGEThere isn’t much that Scenic Industries of Chattanooga, Tennessee can’t handle when it comes to machining. They meet customer’s man…
What started as a small manufacturing business in Kansas City quickly grew to a top provider of hard metal aerospace parts. Dynamic NC recently expanded to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility and needed to fill 63,000 square feet with new machines to produce high-temp alloy and aluminum complex aerospace products. The exponential growth is attributed to the company’s unique ability to machine hard metals specific to the aerospace industry—thanks to their vast Toyoda fleet.
"Toyoda offered the best value on all the platforms we looked at - reliability, dependability, service & performance matched with a cost point." - Bryan Mackey, Dynamic NC Vice President
Dynamic NC moved into the new location to keep up with high product demand as the aerospace industry shifted to hard metal components. Aluminum was the most prevalent material in aircraft manufacturing for years, but machines made to cut aluminum are made for speed and lack the power needed for high-temp alloys. Dynamic NC got ahead of the game with machines that had a mix of capabilities while maintaining low product cost. Toyoda offered the best value out of all platforms Dynamic NC considered—delivering reliability, dependability, service and performance.
Dynamic NC got a head of the game with machines that had a mix of speed and power needed for high-temp alloys. Dynamic NC was the first to install the Toyoda UA2090Ti.
Toyoda multi-axes vertical machining centers fit the bill for Dynamic NC. The UA Series offers five-axis machining that is both impeccably precise and highly rigid. The machines feature high-speed simultaneous five-axis capabilities with a backlash elimination system on the articulating head for high-precision machining. They are equipped with a proven 8,000 RPM high torque Big Plus #50 taper spindle and an 84”x35” table to achieve maximum power and flexibility.
Dynamic NC was the first to install the Toyoda UA2090Ti, designed specifically for high-temp alloys such as titanium and stainless steel. “We were looking at different options for a significant hard metal package that we were awarded. We wanted a mix of capability and affordability and went with the UA2090Ti because it fulfilled all of our requirements,” said Brian Mackey, Vice President of Dynamic NC. Success with the initial VMCs led them to make Toyoda their partner of choice, to expand their existing fleet of 39 machining centers on the floor with the purchase of six UA2090Ti machines.
Service was also a key factor in Dynamic NC’s decision to partner with Toyoda. Toyoda has an extensive inventory of available machines in their United States warehouse, cutting down drastic lead times from overseas. Aerospace manufacturers only order new machines when they receive a purchase order, so quick up time is critical. Within two weeks, the new machines were up and running in the new facility. Toyoda had all hands on deck—sending service install engineers and application engineers to ensure the new technology would perform as expected.
Service was also a key factor in Dynamic NC's decision to partner with Toyoda.
Dynamic NC was able to increase revenue and reduce production costs after installation of the new machines. Toyoda was able to provide value to the service by offering a machine that could effectively cut hard metals efficiently, reducing price per part. “I would absolutely recommend Toyoda. Up front cost is not the decision driver, overall value is. Toyoda offered the best value of all of the platforms we considered. Reliability, dependability, service and performance matched with a great price point,” said Mackey.
